R. Scott Gornto, MDiv, LMFT, CST (Senior Therapist)
Since 1998, R. Scott Gornto has worked with individuals, couples, adolescents, families and groups. His areas of specialization include marriage and family, sex therapy (healthy sexual intimacy, sexual dysfunction, sexual compulsivity/addiction and sexual anorexia), abuse (physical, emotional, verbal, sexual and childhood abuse), addiction and compulsivity, anger, anxiety and depression, boundaries/codependency, career counseling, grief and loss, infidelity recovery, pre-marital counseling, spiritual direction/formation, trauma and dissociation. Scott is a frequent speaker and leads classes, workshops and groups focusing on anger, communication/conflict resolution, divorce recovery, family of origin, marriage, parenting, premarital counseling, and sexual and relationship recovery.
Licensed by the state of Texas as a marriage and family therapist, Scott’s perspective on psychotherapy works with bio-psycho-social-spiritual issues that form a holistic and complete view of the person. He assists clients in addressing their symptoms, gaining insight into their behaviors and thought processes, and alleviating distress.
Scott is a graduate of Baylor University and holds a master of divinity degree in counseling and theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., and he is a graduate of the Clinical Residency Program in Pastoral Counseling and Psychotherapy from the Pastoral Counseling and Education Center (PCEC) in Dallas. Scott continues extensive training with Rick Carson, noted expert in Gestalt/Existential Therapy.
Professional affiliations include: clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, board-certified supervisor by the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and vice president of the Dallas Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. He is a certified sex therapist with the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists, a member of American Association of Pastoral Counselors and American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.
As an extension of his practice, Scott is a certified Birkman consultant and integrates the Birkman Method® (www.birkman.com) in his work with businesses, organizations, non-profits and churches, while conducting team building, conflict resolution, personal coaching, and career counseling.
Scott is licensed and ordained and is a former church planter and pastor. He is an avid golfer. He also enjoys art/painting, soccer, tennis, scuba diving, snow skiing, health/fitness and spending time with his wife and two boys.
