Nicole Caldwell, Ph.D
Psychology and Theology
Dr. Nicole is experienced in treating patients from various religious backgrounds. Regardless of their religious affiliation, there is a focus on improving the whole self (emotional, cognitive, relational and spiritual) with all patients. Dr. Nicole integrates her training as a psychologist with biblical principles and the extent of that integration is dependent upon the needs of the patient and related family members involved in the patient’s therapy.
Orientation/Philosophy
Cognitive-behavioral and family systems are the primary psychological theories through which Dr. Nicole develops treatment plans to help patients. Cognitive-behavioral theory focuses on correcting and decreasing patients’ negative and illogical thoughts that create poor choices and actions. Family systems theory is the approach that the connectedness and interaction among family members makes healthy functioning of family members interdependent. For example, improving the health of the whole family is considered an integral part of increasing a child’s functioning.
Expectations
Expectations for patients and their families in therapy include willingness to participate in therapy sessions and follow through with therapeutic recommendations associated with moving the patient toward his/her identified therapy goals.
