Shelley Benton, Ph.D.
Shelley Benton is a licensed clinical psychologist who has provided psychological services in the Dallas area for more than 10 years. She earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Her master's degree in Education and undergraduate degree in Psychology were completed at Baylor University. She is a member of the Dallas Psychological Association, the International Dyslexia Association and the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Benton specializes in testing and consultation services for children, adults and families with learning differences and/or emotional-behavioral challenges such as dyslexia, math learning disabilities, ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, processing disorders and behavior problems. She also counsels with parents to help navigate the process of receiving accommodation and special services in school and college settings.
Dr. Benton served as clinical psychologist at the Shelton School and Evaluation Center, the world's largest private school for students with learning differences, where she specialized in providing exceptional evaluations and parental consultation to families for dyslexia and other learning differences, ADHD and psychological disorders. She also conducted researching involving children with language disorders and was a presenter at the International Dyslexia Association's annual convention. Dr. Benton also served as the research director at the University of Texas-Dallas Center for Brain Health and has experience working in hospital settings and school systems.
Dr. Benton lives in the Dallas area with her husband and two sons.
